Otília Castellví

Otília Castellví (Gijón, 1907 - Canet de Mar, 2000) worked as a dressmaker in the district of Gracia in Barcelona. In 1934 she joined the Bloc Obrer Camperol (the Peasant Workers’ Coalition), which, barely a year later, was fused into the Partido Obrero de Unificación Marxista (POUM – the Workers’ Party of Marxist Unity). From that moment onwards, she became a witness to a decisive and turbulent period of Spain’s recent past: the secret police headquarters, exile, concentration camps and forced escapes. The book presented here, written in 1996, contains her memoirs.
