Original Title: Primeras voluntades
First Wishes gathers together the complete poems of José María Marcó. However, it is not just a mere collection: it is in fact the result of the author’s wish to reconfigure his poetry, root and branch, reordering it in accordance with his current criteria – and caprice – and so inserting into it a new constellation of meaning. In addition to grouping the poems in accordance with their technical or thematic affinities in major sections that bear revealing titles – “Affects,” “Pranks,” “Wreckages,” “Illusions” – Micó frequently submits to hazardous and implacable chronological order, and this enables him to observe them like an old friend whom he comes across for the first time after many years. “The man I have been has done a few things: writing poetry is one of them. First Wishes does not bring together my successes, but rather my intentions and my wishes. In the following pages you will find not the poems that the reader ought to read, but rather those that I have not been able, or have not wished, not to write.”
«A carefully made edition, one that is ideal for getting to know a poet of class».
Francisco Javier Irazoki, El Cultural
«Micó does not limit himself to just touching things up here and there. Out of the whole of his work, omitting a minimum amount, he constructs a new book, the result of which is a literary fresco that is entirely devoid of affectation».
José Méndez, Joyce
«Micó brings the tradition back to life, but his success is not limited to doing so with the learned tradition. He also does so with the popular tradition».
Jordi Llavina, Ara
